The Stevens-Bennett Home for Ladies

About SBH

At Stevens-Bennett, our dedicated staff takes pride in providing an upbeat, warm, loving, and nurturing environment for our residents. We view ourselves as part of your family and want you to feel welcomed and embraced here.

Our goal is to provide a living experience that focuses on preserving the honor and dignity of our residents as they grow older. We believe in creating an atmosphere that allows our residents to be as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

Founded in 1856 by a small group of Haverhill churchwomen whose objective was to create a home for aged women, the Stevens-Bennett Home recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. It took nineteen years of dedicated fund-raising to reach the goal of $20,000.00 needed to build the original home and it was finally dedicated on October 18, 1876. Seven ladies were admitted the first year and were tended by a matron and a maid. (More History »)

The home provides living arrangements for women who are over age 65 and are able to move around unassisted. Each resident has a private room decorated to their taste. Some have their own televisions and mini-refrigerators. There are also common areas, some with televisions, and some without, to allow for quiet times. All meals are home-cooked by a full-time kitchen staff and served in a gracious, airy dining room. Several years ago, an addition was added to the front of the building. Its bright, light filled atmosphere lends itself to a comfortable location from which to watch the activity on Main Street. (More Lifestyle »)
